7 Great Internet Business Tips

Are you looking to start an internet business? Whether you’re looking to start a side hustle or a new online business venture, there are a few things you need to do in order to get started. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips for establishing your internet business.

We’ll cover everything from choosing the right domain name and setting up your website, to creating valuable content and driving traffic. So whether you’re just getting started or you’re looking for ways to improve your existing internet business, read on for helpful tips!

Writing a Business Plan

One of the most important steps in starting any business is writing a business plan. This document will help you to outline your business goals, strategies and tactics, as well as how you plan on achieving them. It’s also a great way to show potential investors or partners that you’re serious about your business and have done your homework.

If you’re not sure where to start, there are plenty of resources online that can help you write a business plan for your internet business. The Small Business Administration website is a good place to start, as is SCORE, which offers free business advice and mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs.

Domain Name

When it comes to choosing a domain name for your internet business, you want to choose something that is short, easy to remember, and relevant to your business. You also want to make sure that the domain name is available so that you can purchase it.

If you’re looking to buy a domain that has never been registered, you can grab one for extremely cheap. Many hosting companies also provide a free domain name registration with a hosting agreement.

We use Namecheap for all of our new internet business domain registrations because they are affordable, often run specials where you can save even more or get extras, and their domain management interface is well-featured and easy to use.

If you’re buying an expired, expiring, or aged domain, you will want to do some research on it to make sure you’re paying a fair price. You can see the domain’s backlink profile using the Ahrefs’ Backlink Checker tool. Also, you can get an idea of the domain’s authority figures here.

Hosting

Once you have chosen a domain name, you need to set up your website. This involves registering with a web hosting provider and setting up your website’s DNS settings.

There are a few different types of hosting services to choose from, including shared hosting, VPS hosting, and dedicated servers. Shared hosting is the most affordable option, but it also has the least amount of resources and features.

VPS hosting is a step up from shared hosting, offering more resources and a higher level of security. Dedicated servers are the most expensive option, but they offer the most features and resources.

You should choose the type of hosting that best suits your needs and budget. We started out using Siteground for all our shared hosting needs because their prices were fair, their customer service was excellent, and they offered the features we needed at the time.

After a while, we outgrew our shared hosting service and needed to find something that could support additional traffic and more resource demands from our internet business. That brings us to our next point.

If you’re looking for a more powerful host than what’s offered in shared hosting, you may want to consider a VPS. We currently use Cloudways (affiliate link) for our VPS needs because they are affordable, allow resource scaling on-demand, offer extremely fast servers, and offer some vital add-ons that really make things even better.

If you’re looking to scale even further and require mega resources, you may need to look into dedicated hosting. We are currently in the process of moving some of our high-traffic and resource-intensive websites over to a dedicated server.

We’re using Liquid Web for our dedicated server needs because they offer some of the best dedicated hosting plans in the industry, have excellent customer service, and are very reliable.

WordPress

For a multitude of reasons that we will cover in other posts, we highly recommend using WordPress to setup and manage your website. WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) in the world and is used by millions of websites. It is free and open source software released under the GPL.

WordPress is a very versatile platform and can be used for a wide variety of websites, including internet business websites, ecommerce stores, blogs, and more.

There are thousands of plugins available for WordPress that add features to your website without requiring any coding knowledge. These plugins are extremely easy to install and can be found in the WordPress plugin repository.

There are both free and premium plugins available, so you can find one that fits your needs and budget. We use a variety of plugins on our websites, including WooCommerce, Asset Cleanup Pro, Rank Math Pro, WP Gridbuilder, WPForms, and many more.

Pros of WordPress:

  • Free and open source software released under GPL
  • Very versatile platform that can be used for a wide variety of websites
  • Thousands of plugins available that add features to your website without requiring coding knowledge
  • Easy to install and use
  • Affordable (free, with plugins being both free and paid)

Cons of WordPress:

  • WordPress installations are frequently targeted by hackers, so staying updated and sticking to only high-quality, trusted plugins are musts.
  • Learning curve: it takes a long time to become an expert at WordPress, but once you are, your income opportunities can really open up.

Email

Email is one of the most vital tools for an internet business. It’s a way to communicate with your customers, team members, and other professionals in your industry.

It’s also a great way to build relationships with potential customers and clients. Email marketing can be extremely effective in boosting sales and conversions.

There are a variety of email service providers available, but some of the more common ones are Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and AOL.

Each email service provider has their own set of features and pricing plans. You should choose the email service that best suits your needs and budget.

Some email service providers also offer additional features, such as calendars, task lists, and file storage. You can read more about the features offered by each email service provider on their respective websites.

We recommend signing up for a free trial account to test out the email service provider before you commit to a plan. This will allow you to see if the email service provider has the features that you need for your internet business and is compatible with your devices.

Website Builder

Unless you’re a coder by blood, another thing you’ll need for your internet business is a website builder. A website builder allows you to create a website without any coding or design experience.

There are a number of website builders available, but some of the more popular ones are Elementor, Divi builder, Beaver Builder, and Oxygen Builder.

All of these website builders offer a wide variety of templates to choose from and are very easy to use. You can create a website in minutes with no prior experience or design knowledge.

Some website builders also offer additional features, such as ecommerce store support, membership areas, and more. You can read more about the features offered by each website builder on their respective websites.

We recommend signing up for a free trial account to test out the website builder before you commit to a plan. This will allow you to see if the website builder has the features that you need and is compatible with your devices.

We started out testing the waters with Elementor, because the basic version is free. It’s enough to build a simple website and take it live, but you will find that, as you grow, you require more features, like the ones available with the paid plans.

After becoming more comfortable with web design, we eventually decided to move onto Oxygen Builder because it provides a little bit deeper-level access and is significantly faster than other builders. It is more oriented towards coders or at least people comfortable with basic CSS and PHP. Oxygen is a paid product and we highly recommend it.

Content Creation

In order for people to find your internet business, you need to create valuable content that will attract traffic. This content can be in the form of blog posts, articles, videos, or infographics. You should also use keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business in your content.

When creating content, you should keep the following in mind:

  • The content should be relevant to your business
  • The content should be high quality and well written
  • The content should use keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business
  • The content should be updated regularly

In order to create high quality content, you’ll need to do some research and come up with topics that people will be interested in reading about. You can find inspiration for content ideas by doing keyword research, reading industry blogs, and looking at what other businesses in your niche are doing.

Once you have a topic, you’ll need to come up with a headline that will grab people’s attention. You can also use a tool like CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer to help you come up with a catchy headline.

Once you have a topic and a headline, you’ll need to write the content. The content should be between 500 and 1000 words long, and it should be well written and researched. You can use tools like Hemingway Editor to help you improve the readability of your content.

Once the content is written, you’ll need to add keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business. You can use Google’s Keyword Planner tool to find keywords that have low competition and high traffic.

You should also add images to your content, as images are more likely to get shared on social media. You can use free tools like Canva or Pixlr to create custom images for your content.

Once the content is written, edited, and optimized, you’ll need to publish it on your website. You can use a tool like WordPress to easily publish content on your website.

You should also share the content on social media and other websites to help increase traffic. You can use tools like Hootsuite or Buffer to help you schedule your internet business content for publication.

Conclusion

Hopefully you enjoyed this collection of internet business tips. We have only begun to brush the surface of creating and sustaining a successful internet business and there will be much more to come on other posts, but hopefully this is enough to get you started on your path to success.
